זכרון תרועה - A Commemoration of Teruah
- 30 min 6 sec
The Torah presents Rosh haShanah in two places - in Vayyikra 23 as a "Zikhron Teruah" (Commemoration of a Teruah) and in Bamidbar 29 as a "Yom Teruah" (Day of Teruah). Various suggestions have been made to reconcile the seeming contradiction as well as to explain what the blasting of the Shofar is intended to commemorate. We review some of those answers and suggest a new wrinkle that will shed new light on the significance of Rosh haShanah. This shiur was given in memory of Anne Samson z"l on the occasion of her 8th yahrzeit. רחל רבקה בת ר' מתתיהו הכהן ז"ל.
